Laura Baker, the artist will demonstrate how to fold an origami house and Miwa Steuben will accompany with koto music
In reflection of the devastating Marshall Fire that affected Boulder, Louisville and Superior on December 30, 2021, Louisville resident Laura Baker created this installation of 1000 origami houses, inspired by the traditional Japanese legend of the 1000 cranes, symbolizing hope and healing.
Each house has been folded and hung by hand in honor of the households affected by the fire. The story of the fire and the journey of recovery moves from left to right: the dry yellow grass of winter, the cool blue winds, the red flame, the black ash, the shades of green for renewal, and the blue of skies for new possibilities.
This installation stands as a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit and the enduring power of community. It serves as a reminder of the beauty that can arise from even the darkest moments and inspires us to continue working towards a brighter future.”
